Wigs FAQs

1.What Are the Differences between Human Hair and Synthetic Hair?

There are advantages to both and many people choose to have human hair and synthetic hair wigs on hand for different circumstances.

❶ Human Hair

Human Hair offers the most natural look and feel as well as styling versatility. While typically more expensive, with proper care, human hair can last over a year. Human hair is by far the superior choice if quality is the only factor. Other than price, the main drawback to human hair is required maintenance — as with natural hair, it requires effort.  For many, daily styling is actually preferable as it allows for more control over the appearance as well as a sense of normalcy that can come with the daily hair styling ritual.Keep in mind that human hair does not come out of the box ready to wear.  You may choose to have it customized by a professional stylist to get exactly the look you like.

Synthetic Hair

The most appealing aspect to synthetic hair is it can often be worn right out of the box with little or no styling.  The fiber used has “memory” for wave, curl and volume which lets hair bounce back into place with minimal effort — the curl pattern is permanently set.  It can even hold up in bad weather and can guarantee no drooping or frizzing.

However, what synthetic hair offers in ease, it lacks in versatility.  It cannot be styled to look many different ways like its human hair counterparts. Only special Heat Friendly synthetic hair can change the curl pattern. Keep in mind, even the heat friendly fiber can be difficult to style as synthetic fiber is more resistant to change. Synthetic hair is also less durable than human hair. With proper care you can expect synthetic hair wigs and hairpieces to last about 4-6 months – heat friendly synthetic hair 2- 3 months. It is important to follow our care recommendations in order to get the optimal life span from your hair!

2.What Are the Different Types of Wig Cap Construction?

Today’s technology has greatly improved the quality of cap constructions which aims to create a lighter and more natural wearing experience. It all begins with the wig base, referred to as a cap. Which is the material to which the hair is attached in order to create the wig. The new cap constructions are lighter, more durable, and so much more natural looking! When choosing a wig, it is important to consider the cap construction – each approach has a specific method of attaching hair to the cap and offers its own set of advantages.

Traditional Cap Construction

Wigsu Cap Construction -- Monofilament Cap Construction

Monofilament is a new kind of material that can be used in wigs for its great features in the simulation of human scalp. It makes the cap natural-looking and as real as human scalp, so that it can offer the most realistic scalp appearance and create the illusion of the natural hair growth from the scalp where the hair is parted. And a full mono top allows for parting & styling versatility. Besides the monofilament material does no harm to human skin at all. The fact that the each hair is individually hand-tied to the monofilament base makes the wig better-knit than traditional wig caps. And it has the same fine ventilation as full lace wigs. Because of its excellent features mentioned above, monofilament is widely used in high-end wigs. And all the wigs made by Wigsu are with an area of hand-tied 5 Inches×5 Inches monofilament top, which is a far larger area than the traditional hand-tied lace front area(width 2.5 Inches). And all the wigs in Wigsu can be divided into three types-monofilament top wigs, hand-tied monofilament top lace front wigs and 100% hand-tied monofilament top lace front wigs. For more detailed information. Please refer to the pictures and illustrations on the different monofilament caps.

One of the keys to successfully wearing a wig is having it professionally styled on your head to suit your own features. 8.Should I Own More Than One Wig?

Yes! For the practical reasons, wigs can last longer if not worn daily. You can be washing and air-drying one while wearing the other. If you wear human hair or heat-friendly synthetic hair, you can keep one styled straight and the other curly to reduce stress. Here is a tip we love: If you'd like your wig to be your secret, get two or three of your favorite style and ask your stylist to trim them in stages. You can create the illusion of hair growth and haircuts and no one will be the wiser! And if you're more the adventurous type, you can have a little fun with a whole host of different styles and colors.

9.Can I Curl or Straighten My Wig?

Yes, all of our human hair wigs are available for the ultimate styling versatility – you can curl or straighten them as you would your own hair.

10.Can I Color My Wig?

Most styles come in a number of colors, lessening the need to color. While synthetic hair cannot be dyed, human hair wigs can. But it is a tricky process that should be handled by a professional barber only. We recommend only going darker, not lighter -- there is a lot of chemical processing involved in the making of a wig and additional manipulation can cause damage.

11.What Is the Best Way to Store a Wig?

A wig stand or mannequin is ideal. It will help keep the hair from becoming tangled and will help to maintain shape. Also, see if you can find a cool, dry spot to keep wigs in the best condition.

12.Can I Swim or Shower with My Wig?

We do not recommend this. It can put too much stress on the hair and create unmanageable tangles. Also, pool chemicals and salt can damage the hair and affect color.

13.How Long do You Expect the Wig to Last?

Generally, synthetic hair wigs can last over 1 year if you don’t wear wigs every day and take good care. Lace front wigs can last longer, as the hairs were all needled to lace by hand. Of course, 100% human hair wigs can go over 3 years. In a word, the more attention you pay, the longer time the wig lasts!

14.What Are Some Ways to Tackle Thinning Hair?

If you are thinning on top, at the crown or at the hairline, you may choose to wear a half wig, hairpiece or top piece in lieu of a full wig. Many blend in so naturally with your own hair, even experts are hard pressed to see them when in place. They are also a great option if you want to conceal greys or new hair growth between color touch ups.
